How Does Power Over Ethernet Security Cameras Work?
PoE systems use one Ethernet cable to operate each camera. Here, it has to be either a Cat5E or Cat6 cable for the camera to work. The system has two major components. They are as below-
PoE Switch
A PoE switch integrates the Ethernet cables of all the cameras in the system. It makes it easy to set up the whole thing. A PoE switch connects the PoE injector with the network switch, making it possible to provide the data and power to each camera using their respective cable.
PoE Injector
The PoE Injector is a component that transfers the necessary power to the data cable. Since the power travels together with the data, when the PoE switch provides the power and data to the camera, they can all go through one cable.
So, if you look at it, there is one PoE Injector for each camera. Meanwhile, there is only one PoE switch in the entire system, acting as a central control hub.
